ESPCI (École Supérieure de Physique et de Chimie Industrielles), founded in 1882, is a major institution for higher education specialized in physics, chemistry and biology. The school provides different education programs, such as undergraduate (engineering degree), master and doctoral studied. Admission to the school is based on a very competitive entrance examination (an exam in common with Ecole Polytechnique and Ecoles Normales Supérieures) or on qualification.
In engineering program, students learn both in the classrooms (theories) and laboratories (practice). Students are also required to participate actively in the learning process, such as laboratory work and tutorial work (students work in group on an assigned topics).
ESPCI also provides mater degrees in physics and materials sciences:
- Science of materials and nano-objects
- Sensors, measurement and instrumentation
- Nuclear engineering
- Optics, matter, plasma
- Complex system
